The "Quick Start" to successful paddling

SK 101 is the first step into Sea Kayaking and provides a "Quick Start" to anyone interested in the sport. Participants will learn basic terminology of kayaking, selection and use of equipment, how to enter and exit the boat, and basic paddling strokes. The class is conducted on a shoreline venue and participants will paddle in a protected area. Those completing the class will be able to select the correct equipment and paddle safely in a protected environment. (2 hours / equipment included)

SK 102 builds on the skills learned in SK 101, by adding additional strokes and safety skills. Participants will learn draws, sculls, and braces while learning safe practices for kayak travel. Those completing the class will be confident in launching, landing and paddling from protected shores and docks. (2 hours / equipment included)

SK 201 builds on the skills learned in the Introduction series, by adding advanced strokes for boat movement and deep water rescues. The participant will increase their knowledge of strokes, safety, and the kayaking environment. Those completing the class will be a confident beginner, and a contributor to most group trips. (2.5 hours / equipment included)

SK 202 requires successful completion of SK 201. Participants will incorporate all of their skills during a "real world" paddle. Strokes and boat control will be emphasized, along with self and buddy rescues during the training trip. Successful participants will have the skills required to assist trip leaders and safely plan trips of experienced paddlers. This class is a culminating event for aspiring Sea Kayakers.
